A modified cyclone separator that removes the particulate matter and soot from the exhaust or flue gas.
Combination of centrifugal, diffusion and direct impaction forces are guided in a cyclone separator to remove the fine particulate matter emitted from combustion sources.
The air enters at the top of the cyclone barrel tangentially and travels downward into the cone forming an outer spiral. The rotational flow results in a centrifugal force which pushes the particles towards the walls of the cyclone. The particles lose momentum when they hit the wall and thus settle down. To remove particles of smaller size a specialized baffle is used which can remove particles less than 10 microns in size. Removal of up to 40% could be achieved with this device.
